> But immigration lawyers have warned that the sudden halting of the program could create more uncertainty and lead to foreign investors choosing Europe or the U.S. They said it could harm Prime Minister Mark Carney’s ambition to attract global talent to Canada
I love how they always quote lawyers or business leaders to make things seem like a bad thing, yet lately those are the people profiting the most from misuse of immigration systems. Like how Tim Hortons keeps saying there’s a labour shortage and they desperately need more foreign labour. Of course immigration lawyers would speak out against reducing their client base or income.

No one moves here with the sole purpose of being a founder. That pipeline almost exclusively goes to Silicon Valley. Canada loses so many start up founders to the US every year. A targeted program to fund Canadian founders before they jump ship would have way more ROI than this program which was being spammed with bogus applications. A start up visa should mirror the O1 visa system in the US where you have to prove that you are noteworthy or talented, not that you incorporated a company online and came up with a fake website.
