  1. Yeah, but no. The oil companies themselves have said it would take several years to bring everything up to date.

Wait wait wait. I thought this was about the drugs? What about the drugs?! /s

South America and the EU (among others) should refuse to participate in the World Cup.

They should also threaten to boycott the Olympics.

    Seriously.

Sure, Mr. “I’ll End The War In Ukraine, Bring Down Grocery Prices, Have A New Healthcare Plan, Release The Epstein Files Day One” …we believe you, whatever you say.

  5. Yea, the sun could not rise tomorrow too. But I bet it will, the same way I bet oil firms will infact not be “up and running” in 18 months. Venezuela didnt just pop up on the map, theres a reason why almost no American oil companies are extracting there in lieu of other places.

Drugs my ass. He’s talking non stop just about stealing Venezuelan oil. F this orange clown.

I could look at Leslie Nielsen playing American president in Scary Movie and it somehow seems more serious than literal real world America with Trump playing a president. America is a god damn actual meme at this point. It’s wild that we’re literally living in a timeline where this is actually happening…

  7. The internet is fascinating. Everyone knows trump lies, even his supporters. Yet every day there’s 20 posts about “Trump said this”, and every day there’s 3,000 comments from people saying “yeah no he’s lying” like yeah, no shit.

  8. What oil company would want to go in to Venezuela without persistent US security guarantees that all of us will be on the hook for via taxes?

  9. Has anyone heard anything else about those drug boats? No? Huh. I guess we must’ve gotten them all then. /s

  10. And conservatives are completely fine with this.

But I guess once you are ok with children being raped by your president, there isn’t anything that you will object to.

  11. So in other words, oil companies put together this plan, and lobbied/threw money at Trump to help them enact it. You don’t just “come up with a plan” to industrialize another countries resources… this takes a lot of time and money.

  12. If Trump had bothered to talk to the CEOs of the major oil companies first he would have learned that they don’t really want to invest in Venezuelan crude extraction. The world is awash with oil and global consumption is expected to peak by 2030. What the majors want is oil that is cheap and low risk. Venezuelan oil is neither.

It seems that Trump went into Venezuela with no clear idea of what to do next.

  13. No_Patience2428 on

Trump is a homicidal sociopath who thinks they are right about everything and ignores anything otherwise. We are doomed if nothing changes soon.

  14. And which US oil firms would that be? The majors that pulled out of Venezuela years ago and built infrastructure in Canada? The ones who if production increased in Venezuela would lose them more money from production in Canada?

  15. whatsgoingon350 on

    So Venezuela didn’t have drugs?

Nothing like sacrificing and putting American lifes in danger so that he can help oil companies make more money.

  16. It’s disgusting to see the Republican congress sit back and approve this behavior. If Trump decides to launch a nuke or two, I expect they’ll go right along with it.

  17. And we could have fusion power generation in 18 months. But saying it, doesn’t mean it will happen.

  18. Venezuela is a country of 30 million people, kidnapping the arsehole in charge of it doesn’t magically make you it’s ruler anymore than if I kidnapped Trump it would magically make me Emperor of America.

  19. Howwouldiknow1492 on

It’s going to be interesting to see how American oil companies react to this situation. They got burned once when Venezuela nationalized their assets there. Now, who owns what? Is the federal government going to guarantee their new investments there? Getting those fields up and running isn’t going to be trivial.

And what happens when Trump and his cabal are no longer in power? Is the US going to try to make amends to the rest of the world and give all this stuff back?

  20. Trump definitely doesn’t understand any of the issues involved in repairing and modernizing Venezuela’s oil infrastructure.

    He’s a liar and a fucking moron.

  21. thirty7inarow on

Any US oil company doing business in Venezuela should be subject to international sanctions.

  22. Truthisnotallowed on

They are not U.S. firms – the United States does not own them, nor would the United States receive any of the profits from them.

Trump is using our tax dollars to pay for his gift to the oil companies that financed his political campaigns.

  23. The_Mammoth_Hunter on

    “Trump claims…”

Trump says a lot of stupid shit. Trump claimed he could resolve the Russia/Ukraine war in 24 hours and here we are. That’s just for starters.

  24. Old-n-Wrinkly on

    He’s living on another planet.

The major US oil companies don’t even want to show up. Even if they did, 18 months is ridiculous. Try ten years. Even then, the world currently has a glut of oil.

Even then, fossil fuels are not going to increase in demand, they’re out of date. The world’s moving on to clean energy, 1965 is only alive in his head.

Also he looked like he was fighting to stay conscious in that press conference. Time for private nap time, SIR. What are they putting in those IVs?

  25. So blatant invasion of sovereign countries for profit is now acceptable to the USA. It’s far past the time where the rest of the world who retain some kind of sanity start to isolate and sanction the USA who are now blatantly a criminal aggressor. Diplomacy is obviously beyond influencing the grifting idiot that is Trump.
