One of the greatest athletes North Macedonia has ever had is staying at home.

The Handball Federation of North Macedonia announced that its cooperation with head coach Kiril Lazarov has been extended. Just ahead of the trip to Switzerland, where the team will fine-tune its form for the European Championship, the continuation of the partnership has been officially confirmed.

The contract has been extended until 2029. At the presentation, Federation President Aleksandar Stefanov addressed the media:

“We have officially extended our cooperation with the head coach of our men’s senior national team, Kiril Lazarov, with a contract until 2029. We believe continuity and stability are key to the progress of the national team and Macedonian handball as a whole. We look forward to a successful and fruitful collaboration in the period ahead, in which—through joint effort, dedication, and a clear vision—we will continue to achieve good results and develop our sport,” said the president of Macedonian handball.

Head coach Lazarov also briefly commented:

“To our mutual satisfaction, we have extended our cooperation with the Handball Federation of North Macedonia. Leading the national team—especially of your own country—is a great honor and responsibility. I am grateful for the trust and support. Ahead of us is a period filled with serious work, clear goals, and high expectations. Through joint effort, discipline, and full commitment, we will continue to work on the progress of the national team and on representing North Macedonia with dignity, with a focus on long-term stability and results.”

Lazarov took over the North Macedonia national team in 2021. At first, he served in a player-coach role, and after ending his playing career, he devoted himself fully to coaching.

At the European Championship, North Macedonia will play in a group with Denmark, Portugal, and Romania.
