If someone made a painting of that second photo, I’d probably criticise it for being a bit unrealistic and exaggerated…

I’m hoping the weather holds this weekend and I might get to go for a sunrise hike in the Slieve Blooms.

(For those unaware, you can drive to the Ridge of Capard car park and walk the last 300m to the peak. From there, on a super clear day, you can see as far north as the hills of Sligo/Leitrim and as far south as the Knockmealdowns in Cork/Tipp. Crucially, you’re facing North looking out over the entire top half of the island. As the sun rises from the east, you get to see it rise up from behind the Wicklow Mountains to your right and if you’re lucky, and the clouds are bare etc, you can catch the shadow of night being rolled away by the sun. This is a Newgrange level of experience, but you’ve got a shot at it every day of the year! It feels Celtic and druidic and it’s just an awesome feeling. Strongly recommend going for a hike afterwards, maybe starting in Glenbarrow car park, coffee shop might be open and doing one of the 5/8/13km looped walks up past the gorgeous waterfall and climbing a few peaks on the oldest mountain range in Europe.

Obligatory Laois, Laois, Laois, for good measure.)
