  1. Want the laws might aswell take the currency and everything that goes with it, keep these remainers happy.

  2. It makes sense to align on food standards seeing as how we import and export so much to the EU, also no one wants chlorinated chicken and food additives that make you glow in the dark. Things like pesticide use and animal welfare (although we often have higher animal welfare standards) are just common sense.

We will see what else they decide to align on but so far there is nothing to frighten the horses although the Express and Mail will no doubt have a melt down which is pretty much par for the course.

It was my one hope for this government that over the course of the parliament they just quietly got on with the job of fixing the car crash that was Brexit. They’re taking it slow and steady… too slow for my liking, but at least we’re getting on with it.

  4. Brexit was the wrong decision but I hope people are realistic and don’t treat this as some massive cure that will fix everything overnight.

    It will still help massively

JFC just rejoin. A less good position than we used to have is better than nothing at and being bent over by the Yanks, China and the UAE.

Government does its job of of negotiating trade and regulatory deals with neighbouring nations.

Such a nonstory. I do wish the media would stop their obvious propaganda

Does this mean fruit and veg will now last longer than 3 days again? Or we will stop putting tubs of celebrations to cover the shortages?

A good step, but on its own it’s something that’ll make no-one happy (political discourse-wise). I’m curious to see how this current status-quo of EU alignment but not integration can be defended…

Brexit would have gone down as one of the biggest acts of self harm a nation willingly applied to itself but then the US voted in trump for a second term (well, he rigged the election but that’s a different discussion). However, it still remains a really stupid decision and any moves we can make to repair the relationship and be closer to Europe and the EU is a good thing, especially seeing how bat shit insane the US is at the moment.

  10. He has no mandate for this. Whether you like Brexit or not – it was what we voted for and for separation from Europe completely – not wait 5 years and row it back.

  11. Whatever they try will not work as the French will piss all over it. Even if it benefits them they won’t care.

Setting us up to trade effectively with our geographically closest neighbours makes a lot of sense and literally CANT be a bad thing.

If we do eventually rejoin there will also be a lot less shit to do to get on par.

All around sensible move that puts us in a better position on all fronts really. I’m sure this will be spun negatively SOMEHOW

  13. Does this mean that in areas where we have higher animal welfare standards that the EU will be aligning with ours, or does it mean we will lower the current standards?

Or maintain the status quo where our standards are higher bringing higher costs, so cheaper eu produce with lower standards can undercut domestic production.

Makes sense. The EU is still one of the UK’s largest trading partners and political allies. I’m sure Nationalists will whine about it as usual.

I fully support this, we need stronger ties with the EU, Brexit was always going to be a disaster.

My concern is Starmer really needs to pull something out of the bag when it comes to PR and how this is communicated to the masses, otherwise it’s playing right into Reforms hands.

  16. Starmer and his cohorts need to resign and the country needs a general election. If they get back in, fine, but we need a referendum on issues like this.

  17. ConflictNew3328 on

Of course it makes sense to align with our closest trading partner…Would you rather align with Trump?

Conservative lies re Brexit benefits have been exposed – economy has suffered lot more pain than any gains… Immigration has increased after Brexit than before, NHS in worst state than before, and economic growth been non existent ( on per capita basis). Not to count inflation which has been higher than rest of the countries because of Brexit rigidities. Not to mention that the UK would be the “Singapore on Thames ” tax friendly country but we heading the other direction….

We are poorer than before and overtaxed….

See, if they’d started with this instead of digital ID I’d have way more faith.

  19. Oh boy, what’s that? Some good news on Reddit, a Christmas miracle!

Jokes aside, great news, Brexit was a dumpster fire, every bit of it that we can reverse will be good for the country

If we want to sell to the EU we need to reach their import standards. The same the UK refusing US chlorinated chicken. This was pointed out during Brexit and no one took any notice.

  21. What a massive, avoidable clusterfuck of a headache the last decade of Brexit has been.
