As winter rages on, many Canadians may be looking for a warm weather vacation.
Those tired of freezing rain and snow can find some low-cost trips to sunny spots next month.
In its monthly Travel Hack Series, search aggregator Skyscanner pulled three of the most economical destinations.
These are the cheapest destinations for Canadian travellers in February:
Cancun, Mexico
This Caribbean destination is known for turquoise waters, white-sand beaches, vibrant nightlife, and rich Mayan history. Travellers can choose all-inclusive resorts in Cancun’s hotel zone or stay on the nearby islands of Isla Mujeres and Isla Holbox.
Snorkelling, diving and kayaking are popular activities. Those into history can visit ruins in Chichén Itzá and Tulum.
Round-trip flights from Toronto start at $407, according to Skyscanner.
Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
Punta Cana is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Latin America. The area is known for its white sand beaches, blue turquoise waters, and seaside towns, which face both the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.
Activities include snorkelling, windsurfing, banana boat rides, speedboats, scuba diving, catamaran cruises, party boats and deep sea fishing.
Round-trip flights from Ottawa start at $447.
Belize City, Belize
Belize draws scuba divers and snorkelers from around the world for its barrier reef, second in size only to the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. It is home to hundreds of species of coral and fish.
Adventure travellers will enjoy zip-lining through the jungle and exploring ancient Mayan ruins.
Round-trip flights from Montreal start at $412.
Other tips for saving on airfare include choosing the best time to book and choosing the cheapest flight dates.
Travellers travelling from Toronto to Cancun in February typically see the biggest savings when booking exactly 11 weeks ahead of their trip, according to Skyscanner.
Flying out during the week of Feb. 9 or 22 instead of Feb. 14 or 27, could help travellers save on airfare.
Hotels can also be cheaper on different dates.
“Small shifts in when you travel can lead to better hotel deals, especially during popular periods when prices fluctuate day by day,” Skyscanner travel expert Laura Lindsay said.
Trending travel spots in February include Cape Town, South Africa and Queenstown, New Zealand, and Madeira, Portugal.
