Right now it seems like a war of US vs European copywriters. All we europeans know is to write letters and speeches.

  2. That’s a weird statement to make as Greenland has been pushing for independence from Denmark for a long time. To be clear, they don’t want to be part of the US either, they want to be independent. However a statement where “Greenland belongs to its people” isn’t really accurate if the people don’t get independence.

I don’t think Americans realise quite what the reaction of Europeans would be if Trump invades Greenland. They may get Greenland but they would lose much more.

Give every citizen in Greenland, half a million and citizenship if they vote to join the United States

would be cheaper because people don’t realize there are about 60,000 people for all that land mass
30 billion is nothing in terms of global politics

  5. And if the US makes a financial offer to the people of Greenland and they accept it? What then?

I don’t think Europe is prepared for a scenario where Greenlanders vote to become a US territory. They’re just taking on faith the notion that they will refuse any offer. For example $300k to every Greenlander is only $10Bn, chump change to the US govt. There are people that would do a lot more kinky things than join the US for a lot less than that, lol.

  6. This is a weird statement: “Greenland belongs to its people. It is for Denmark and Greenland, and them only, to decide on matters concerning Denmark and Greenland…”. What’s Denmark doing here if Greenland belongs to its people? I mean Greenland wants to be independent of Denmark also, so in this letter about Greenland “issue” mentioning Denmark is a bit silly to put it lightly.

  7. Many of the commenters are OK with a child sex trafficker as their dictator. The arguments as to why the US is entitled to this villainy are beyond embarrassing.

  8. Europeans are being misleading on purpose.

Greenland doesn’t belong to its people currently, it belongs to Denmark.

Trump may be an idiot trying to colonize Greenland but let’s not pretend Europeans are guilt free here – Greenland used to have inhabitants before Denmark colonized it.

but what if they let the Greenland people vote if they want to be independent and decide for themselves or belong to Danemark?

What if they choose to be independent and choose to be part of US for reasons like compensation packages….

Greenland belongs to the people who lives there , exactly, and those are not Danes. They should choose their own fate

I wonder if EU citizens will boycott American made goods and travel much like Canada did? This could become an expensive mistake for the US.

Americans ESPECIALLY Trump voters should be extraordinarily embarrassed.

Thing is none of his 77 million voters care.

    VOTING MATTERED!

I can’t speak for everyone, but I’m certainly on board with territory purchases in principle. Historically, America has expanded by conquest and by purchase. Expansion by purchase is vastly preferable. Conquest is difficult and fraught diplomatically.

As to the proposed price, it seems a reasonable one. Even if you just think of it as buying goodwill compared to the diplomatic cost of conquest, it’s a good deal.

The upkeep cost of Greenland would be completely unnoticeable in US budget. The US pays more upkeep than that for countries like Jordan, to say nothing of actual US territory like Puerto Rico.

Wow…so vocal about Greenland. No wonder the global south thinks the global north are hypocrites. Watch all the ethical arguments come out now.

Europe will bend over because they dont have a spine. They will grovel at the feet of Trump once Trump invades Denmark. Eg. Starmer.

I think its good because for once the target will not be some improvised country in the global south. Taste of their own medicine and what not.
