The world is edging ever closer to the brink of catastrophe.
Canada and our friends are going to have to make some hard decisions about doing the right thing vs doing the expedient thing.
I hope we do the right thing, as painful as that may be.

I feel like the elephant in the room is the Northwest passage being more open than ever. If you own Greenland you can project a shitload of force into a trading lane that will just be more and more important every year. Mineral rights definitely have something to do with it but controlling global trade is more immediately profitable.
Also fishing rights as going to be more important as cold water species are pushed further North. Climate change is going to make Greenland far more important in the coming years.

That’s the point. Otherwise it doesn’t make sense. Greenland/Denmark were perfectly cooperative when they wanted anything legit, for decades.
But Trump can’t get america to quit NATO without the approval of congress. The will of the american people, even their republican congress, is overwhelmingly to stay in NATO. So he has to get america kicked out.
Once out of nato, they’ll need control over Greenland because Denmark will no longer be friendly. So attacking greenland is the move.

It’s nobody, but Trump’s fault if NATO breaks up. So basically it should say USA has become the country that could break up NATO.

It seems to me that Trump is cashing in on Greenland’s distaste for Denmark and their aspirations of being an independent country. My guess is that this will happen.

Putin and Xi Jinping are now sitting down with their popcorn while the United States is doing what they were only dreaming of doing.

The irony of this all is that the only country to ever benefit from invoking article 5 is the USA itself.
It would really be something if it decides to self destruct an agreement that it was really the only direct beneficiary of.

Wonder if we can come up with a new defence alliance under norad? Isn’t a Canadian general already the the second in command of that military command?

Greenland breaking nato is like telling a woman for a black eye it’s her fault there’s domestic violence in her home.

Once he has Greenland, Canada will be surrounded on all sides….
He can easily blockade both our coasts under the guise of “ensuring territorial integrity between Greenland, Alaska and the mainland” or some BS. I don’t think annexation is on the horizon given that I can’t see the rest of the Commonwealth idly standing by to let that happen…but he can easily force us into a financially devastating neo-colonial deal.
