In a statement, the publication indicated that “the top five places in the ranking, which are equivalent to almost €17 billion,” continue to be dominated by the Amorim, Soares dos Santos, Guimarães de Mello, and Azevedo families, now including “a new entry, that of Dionísio Pestana.”

The ranking is led by Fernanda, Paula, Marta, and Luísa Amorim, with €5.84 billion and stakes in the Galp Group, Corticeira Amorim, Amorim Luxury, Banco Luso-Brasileiro, as well as estates and real estate.

Next comes the Soares dos Santos family, with €3.2 billion, which controls the Francisco Manuel dos Santos Society and Jerónimo Martins, owner of Pingo Doce.

In third place is the Guimarães de Mello family (€3.1 billion) with stakes in the José de Mello Group, CUF, Brisa, Bondalti, José de Mello Residências, among others.

In fourth place are Nuno, Paulo and Cláudia Azevedo, to whom Forbes attributes €2.79 billion, with stakes in the Sonae group, which owns Continente, and in several other areas.

Rounding out the top of the ranking is Dionísio Pestana, of the Pestana Group, among others, with €1.98 billion.

The remaining five places in the ‘top’ 10 belong to António Silva Rodrigues (Simoldes), Fernando Campos Nunes (Visabeira), the Alves Ribeiro family (Alves Ribeiro Construção), the Silva Domingues family (BA Glass), and Carlos Moreira da Silva (BA Glass).

“Forbes Portugal annually assesses the assets of around one hundred Portuguese entrepreneurs, using their holdings in listed and unlisted companies,” it indicated, explaining that it takes into account publicly available information.
