Sadly it looks like we will be out numbered in Europe
I don’t know enough about the deal to comment, other than noting a lobby rather than a detailed objective analysis almost certainly won the day.
Does it matter? Won’t it pass overall in the EU?

Not before time. Micheál Martin and co. have shown contempt for farmers and rural Ireland in how they have handled this issue.
By dragging their heels they’ve allowed the likes of Italy and France have their minds changed, ultimately increasing the chances of this deal passing.
Micheál Martin thinks he’s dodged the backlash by pulling this last minute rabbit out of the hat, but he is absolutely responsible if Mercosur passes.
Yes who wants cheaper meat and lower prices.

The scaremongering has worked it seems.
Brazil has serious flaws in its traceability – antibiotics and growth hormones (illegal in the EU) can be bought over the counter without ID.
Their beef makes a mockery of the standards that EU farmers are legally obliged to meet.
Letting more Brazilian beef into Europe increases risks of contamination of our food chain, poor traceability makes it difficult to track if something does go wrong.
Good, its crazy to ask us to reduce our CO2 under the threat of massive fines, whilst on the other hand incentivizing Brazilian farmers to cut down more Rain Forest to use for grazing land to produce beef.
“We’re too dependent on trade with the evil US!”.
Ok, how about trade deals with Canada and South America?

I’m sick of this pandering to farmers. Handouts after handouts for their shitty industry to survive. We’d be doing well to halve the current farming labour force, reducing farming subsidies and moving them to construction work subsidies would help fix a lot of issues.
At least it’s likely to pass regardless.
