On January 6th, President Aleksandr Lukashenko signed a decree On Improving the Admission Campaign, which aims to guarantee equal opportunities for applicants applying to higher and secondary specialised education institutions by implementing a fair and competitive selection process, sb.by reports citing the Belarusian leader’s press service
The document establishes a state commission responsible for overseeing the preparation and conduct of the admission campaign and approves its permanent membership. This commission is authorised to supervise university-level Olympiads that provide preferential admission privileges to its participants
Chaired by Deputy PM Natalya Petkevich, the commission comprises representatives from the Council of the Republic, the House of Representatives, government agencies, regulatory bodies and public organisations.
The decree also revises certain aspects of the admission regulations for higher and secondary specialised education. In particular, applicants applying for distance learning programmes are no longer required to have work experience related to their field of study.
Additionally, the categories of individuals eligible for admission benefits have been clarified, especially regarding the establishment of a college under the Interior Ministry.
A new specialised exam — History of Belarus in the Context of World History —has been introduced, replacing the former History of Belarus course that was taught in grades 10 and 11.
