President Lee Jae Myung has stressed the need to make thorough preparations for energy transition, saying international chaos related to energy issues is becoming more apparent.

Lee made the call on Thursday when chairing a meeting of senior presidential secretaries at the presidential office.

The president is apparently drawing attention to the intensifying competition in the world in nuclear reactors and renewable energy amid the latest trend of global supply chain restructuring.

Lee emphasized that the nation’s fate and growth depend on preparations it makes for future energy and for efforts to be aligned with the global energy transition.

Lee’s call comes as some observers have assessed that competition for energy dominance, particularly over oil, was the underlying factor in the recent U.S. military operation in Venezuela.
