  1. The neat thing is the fire is actually making its own storm clouds at this point.

“Neat” in that “oh shit, we’re so fucked” way, of course.

  2. Oh, wondering whether I should close balcony for the night in inner Melbourne… wind is from the south, so probably ok

Like 3 or 4 years back there was a number of fires in the Dandenong Ranges going up and once they’d mostly settled I went out to run some shopping to family since they’d been preoccupied preparing. Was the exact same, just driving into this ominous smoky red haze. Felt like I was delivering the ring to mordor

  4. Melba hwy?

Our place is in the leave now zone, but to the east, but we don’t have any fucking water anyway

Stay safe everyone, it’s scary at the moment, not looking forward to tomorrow, my thoughts are with the people living in or near the dangerous areas.

    Take care please.

  6. The road from Pomonal to Halls Gap is full of dead fallen timber on both sides (unburnt from last fires) I really hope people can relocate even just for a couple of days. Nothing would survive the inferno through there.

It’s my first summer down here and the wind and heat today was like nothing ive experienced and it wasn’t even that bad today, we’ve got extreme fire danger warnings and wind warnings for tomorrow, im probably being pedantic but the warnings make me anxious

This shit terrifies me. I understand rationally that the fire might be a long way away and that the wind may not be blowing in the direction one is heading, but the idea of being that close at all just freaks me out. Fucking hate fire. In all my natural disaster dreams, it’s a fire

  9. Just did the drive home along that road about 8pm. We were supposed to leave Bright on Friday, but left Thursday afternoon, on gut instincts. That section was super eerie.
