  1. IF enough people did it for long enough. It would in fact change everything. Covid proved it when all the people who keep everything actually running became “essential workers”.

You don’t need a civil war. Rich people need you a lot more than you need them, but we are all so worried about where the next meal is coming from we are stuck in a spiral.

What do you have to lose if you can’t even make it with minimum wage. Fight for it, bro.

Get in the trades and as a hobby protest lol

  3. I think unions need to strike. Unions from various trades and industries. We need to have a sustained work stoppage lead by Unions. That would get people’s attention.

The issue with that is that unions have been demonized since the 1980’s and their numbers are down. Im not sure they are strong enough currently.

  4. Don’t be fooled. The general strike would shut everything down. It’s our last chance.

You are way over the point that anything could get Trump out of office. He could even publicly admit raping 13-year-olds. What would happen?

  6. ITT: A bunch of people lacking reading comprehension and completely oblivious to the state of affairs in America saying, “no, but you really should strike.”

  7. The collective action problem is difficult to solve… someone will ALWAYS be there to take the job.

Plus, half our country loves Donald Trump.

  8. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING ever sticks to that fucking guy. No consequences ever. None. I’m a history buff and in all my reading I have never come across somebody so completely immune from all consequences who wasn’t some royal person. This guy is an evil unicorn and it makes me panicked just to think about

Even though Trump’s approval rating is going down, nearly half of the country is still Republican. Add that to the neolib centrist capitalists, you’ll never get a majority supported general strike off the ground currently. And that means everyone who strikes just gets fired.

  10. It’s got to involve enough people, which is difficult with non-union labor. When it effects the oligarchs, then his *actual* base will bring him down.

  11. The rest of the industrialized world has no idea how desperate and impoverished most Americans are. We have been absolutely destroyed by education and healthcare costs along with the billionaires extracting so much wealth from the nation that the middle class no longer exists. We literally have military and paramilitary forces in our streets murdering us. Every protestor has to come to grips they may be murdered or disappeared for participating in constitutionally protected activities. We need help from NATO and the UN at this point.

  12. Yeah like 75% of the guys I work with are Trump supporters…. they aren’t going to strike when they agree with what’s happening. My fucking dad and brother said it was a justified shooting last night via text message……

A solid portion of the country see no issue with what’s happening, all the bad stuff is still Biden’s fault.

  13. I really, 100% get you and sympathise with you and it is really, really unfair, but as much as you can do you have to do. And not only you, so many more has to do it too.

We have to too, in Europe, and by God I’m trying. And we’re the lucky ones.

    2 things Europeans don’t understand,

    1. America is HUGE and by design actually organizing national strikes is logistically impossible.

    2. We aren’t unified in any way shape or form, a person from Kentucky wouldn’t give two shits about the day to day life of someone in Oregon for example.

We aren’t even The “United” states anymore if you honestly ask me.

It’s not about you, it’s about getting thousands like you to do it all together.

  16. The British leaders are doing the same stuff to them. Where’s their strike? All talk, no action there too.

  17. It could help. It would just require 10 million other workers to also go on strike to possibly do something.

Shutting down thousands of businesses, services, and schools would send a huge shock to the economy.

Ya, one employee won’t do much. Even 1,000 employees wouldn’t. A truly national massive strike though would do something.

  18. Does no one remember Covid? If less than 5% of us strike, we will get change. Especially “essential” workers.

  19. van_vanhouten on

I think you guys should start boycotting major companies. It’s the billionaires bottom line you have to affect.

  20. I thought this is what you had that precious 2nd amendment for but you chose to only use it on kindergartens or something

  21. The democrats have failed to protect us. The failed willingly, and intentionally. We have one side acting like nazis, and the other side complicit in those actions. We are fucked.

  22. So who do you expect to go on strike then? Tech CEOs? Wallstreet investors?

Working people strike, and working people do essential work. Food delivery, construction work, public transport, trash services etc. etc. etc. is essential, corporate consulting is non-essential.

  23. I-hang-myself on

Why do Americans always group Europeans together💀, it’s only the french that are doing this

  24. What bothers me about the idea of general strikes is that what are healthcare workers supposed to do? We make up 12% of the workforce in the US which is nothing to scoff at, and unfortunately we do indirectly perpetuate a rather harmful industry worth billions, but if we just decided not to go into work for a while, how would that affect our patients and residents? Half the damn hospitals and nursing homes in this country work on skeleton crews as it is. A strike isn’t viable for us, though maybe someone more knowledgeable can fill me in on the concept.

Try setting a few dozen cars on fire and blocking all traffic in and out of DC for a few days.

People outside of America don’t realize that a general strike in America would almost certainly result in getting fired by your employer.

Get fired by your employer, you’ve just erased healthcare access for your entire family.

America’s lack of free healthcare isn’t an oversight. It’s a trap.
