A new poll has found that Germans now distrust the USA almost as much as Russia. Meanwhile, three-quarters see France and the UK as trustworthy partners.

Please let the UK back in to the EU when we come crawling back sometime in the next few years.

  2. Are there similar polls for other countries in Europe?

Edit: for France, I found an [Ifop](https://www.ifop.com/article/les-francais-et-les-etats-unis/) poll showing that only 27% still consider the US as trustworthy ally, compared to 71 and 65 for Germany and the UK respectively. And 63% consider the Americans as our opponents regarding Russia (so rather Russian allies).

Edit 2: as others say, this was in March. What happened since then, especially with Venezuela, certainly lowered this trust.

  3. Fought countless wars and lost millions to the French – but still trust them more than Trump

  4. Almost half of Germans not trusting Ukraine is absolutely wild. Coming from someone in the UK I can’t even comprehend that.

  5. Yeah, those numbers are about where I’d expect them. A bit high on the “cannot trust France” axis (I can’t really think of anything France has done in the last couple decades that would make a German mistrust them), but there’s always a couple weirdos I guess, probably the same lot that actually like Trump.

  6. Women are even more critical of the US than men.

And that’s a pattern I seem come up more often, they tend to be more liberal overall.

Was in Berlin last September and a drunk Paderborn fan sung Erika to me saying it would be song I would like because I’m American. Not a great feeling to say the least.

History would know Trump either as the great unifier of Europe or the Destroyer of America.

  9. Small bonus: 3% of respondents are “very satisfied” with Donald’s work. 😀

And that despite the fact that AfD voters were also surveyed.

Trust may be difficult to quantify but it sures has huge value, Trump lost all the one that was accumulated in decades, and in a handful number of years.

controversial opinion: Trump is what was needed to wake europe up and return it to reality. I legitimately think theyre acting aggressive towards europe for that reason

The US and Europe share A LOT of geopolitical goals. It doesnt matter too much if the current relationship breaks down, we will likely find ourselves on the same side again

  12. UK and France have always been frenemies. Like siblings who fight and throw insults, but they are the only ones who get to do it. When each other is in trouble, or there are bigger things to worry about, we always find ourselves on the same side. Would sooner trust a frenchman than a Republican

If Germans don’t trust the US, they should not physically store 37% of their gold reserves worth over $5.5 trillion USD in the US.

If they asked for their gold back, do you think the US would allow them to have it? If things get much worse, the answer to this question is obvious.

Edit – $555 billion USD, not $5.5 trillion. 37% is correct though, and same goes for Italy who stores about the same amount which represents about half of their reserves. In typical fashion, France stores none there.

  14. I’m French and the sentiment is mutual, Germany and the UK share our perspective and values in many ways. Ukraine is also worthy to become part of the EU IMHO.

If you look at what Putin is doing and look at what Trump is doing. Putin is sending hundreds of thousands of people to their graves, while Trump is causing maximum outrage by possibly affecting our standard of living.

But I do understand the trust issue. It’s simple, show your power and flex those muscles hard. And we have to learn that in that world, strongly worded letters don’t count

The US is no longer a rule of law nation, it’s ruined its reputation for generations on so many levels. It can’t be trusted to even uphold the most basic of human rights, let alone any international treaties. The faster they fall the better.

  17. Nice to at least see Europeans getting along for a change huh. I sure as hell hope this trend continues so we can work together even more intensively and take charge of our common security and futures✅

  18. well when you have a social conscience people tend to trust you.

i say this anticipating Farage will likely damage UK trust though – i dont think he will outright win but likely form some sort of coalition.

France 78% is pretty wholesome considering that Germans are probably not even trusting our own country that much.

  20. I swear to God if Russia claiming swathes of Eastern Europe in the 21st century and the USA, historically Europe’s biggest ally also signalling at attacking Europe possibly militarily and definitely economically is not enough to make us wake up and have some drastic changes then nothing ever will and we should all conclude that we are indeed a continent of dumbasses and a historical disappointment.

As a German, I am obliged to hate the french. But they are also a trustworthy ally, when it becomes important. German/French hatred is kinda like that one bro with which you just insult eachother all day.
Having said that: fuck the french
    Still love y’all tho

  22. Despite its flaws, this results is a testament to the EU´s success in bringing us closer together

American here. This data seems to line up with how much Americans trust the USA as well.

Canadian here. Our trust in the USA is sinking down to China levels. I feel so uneasy living so close to the US border.
