CM launches Malta Mission in Doon

Dehradun, 7 Jan: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami participated in the two-day Malta Festival organised by the Seva Sankalp (Dharini) Foundation at the ITBP Stadium, Seema Dwar, here, today.  During the event, he interacted with the farmers from different districts and sampled traditional preparations made from Malta (a citrus fruit grown in the hills) and lemon. Addressing the gathering, on this occasion, the CM emphasised on the vast potential for Malta cultivation in Uttarakhand and announced the launch of the Malta Mission, a state government initiative aimed at boosting cultivation, marketing, and value addition of the citrus fruit. The mission seeks to ensure that farmers in the hill regions achieve a substantial rise in their income while local fruits secure a distinct identity at the national level.

Dhami further stated that, along with Malta, the government is actively encouraging the production of kiwi, apple, peach, plum, and various lemon species, besides other indigenous fruits. He observed that festivals such as the Malta Festival serve as vital platforms to connect farmers directly with consumers and the wider market.

Among those present on the occasion were IG, ITBP, Sanjay Gunjyal and several dignitaries who extended their support to the initiative, reinforcing the state’s commitment to strengthening horticulture and empowering farmers in Uttarakhand.
