A special premiere screening at the Chenrezig Institute will offer Sunshine Coast audiences a rare opportunity to explore the origins of Tibetan Buddhism in Australia through a new feature-length documentary.
Chenrezig Institute: The Origin of Tibetan Buddhism in Australia, directed, produced and edited by Małgorzata Ola Dobrowolska, tells the story of Chenrezig Institute, one of the oldest Tibetan Buddhist centres in the Western world.
Drawing on interviews with long-term students and practitioners, the film documents the Institute’s early beginnings, its evolution over decades, and its lasting influence on Australian spiritual life. It honours the founding vision of Lama Yesheand Lama Zopa Rinpoche, whose teachings helped shape both the Institute and the lives of those who studied there.
The documentary also follows the personal journeys of dedicated practitioners who embraced Buddhist teachings, offering an intimate reflection on compassion, commitment and inner transformation.
The premiere will be held on Saturday January 31, 2026, at the Chenrezig Institute Gompa in Eudlo. Dinner will be served at Big Love Café from 5pm, with the 80-minute screening beginning at 6.30pm. The evening will conclude with a live-stream conversation with the director.
Tickets range from $30 for the screening to $50 for screening and dinner, with discounted options for children. Full details and bookings are available at www.chenrezig.com.au/upcoming-events/premiere-screening-chenrezig-the-origin-of-tibetan-buddhism-in-australia.
