Rabat – Morocco has introduced a new audio description technology to help blind and visually impaired fans follow matches at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025.
The initiative was seen during the quarter-final match between Senegal and Mali, where blind supporters attended the game in the stadium using special headphones. The devices provided live audio commentary, describing the action on the pitch in real time, including player movements, key plays, and match events.
The technology allowed visually impaired fans to follow the match independently and experience the stadium atmosphere alongside other supporters. The initiative was provided inside the stadium as part of the tournament’s accessibility measures.
The move received positive reactions from spectators and observers, who commended the organizers for promoting inclusion and equal access to sport.
One X user described it as “one of the greatest services Morocco is providing during the current tournament,” adding that such a level of accessibility had not been seen in previous Africa Cup of Nations editions.
The user explained that the technology goes beyond standard radio commentary, as it offers detailed descriptions of every movement on the field, “as if you are watching the match with your own eyes.”
The same user commended Morocco’s overall organization of the tournament, calling the initiative the best moment of the competition so far and expressing appreciation to the Moroccan organizers for their efforts.
Morocco has been widely commended for its organization of AFCON 2025, with this initiative adding to efforts to improve accessibility during the competition.
