Stormy weather grounds ferry services across Greece

Ferry services across Greece remain suspended as stormy weather conditions persist and are expected to worsen from Saturday evening. According to the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY), winds are reaching locally up to force 9.

The coast guard has imposed a sailing ban at the ports of Piraeus, Rafina, and Lavrio.

In addition, ferry routes on the lines Agia Marina – Nea Styra, Igoumenitsa – Corfu, Rio – Antirrio, Killini – Zakynthos, and Killini – Kefalonia remain suspended.

Authorities are advising passengers planning to travel to check with local port authorities and travel agencies before departure, as further cancellations or schedule changes may occur.

Weather conditions are expected to deteriorate further from Saturday evening, accompanied by a drop in temperatures. On Sunday, temperatures are expected to fall by up to 10 degrees Celsius.

Particularly low temperatures are expected in northern Greece, along with frost. Snowfall is also forecast at low altitudes in central and eastern Macedonia and Thrace.
