Growing Together: Newport's Business Boom and Community Bonds

NEWPORT, N.Y. — A new addition to Newport’s business landscape, The Haven Signature Spa, has officially opened its doors.

Owner Katie Smith said the spa is a welcoming place for self-care and skin care.  Smith and her husband, both from the area, felt confident that the community would embrace their new business.

“Living here made me realize how special this community is and how supportive everybody is, and I just really wanted to create a space for wellness and self-care for everybody in the area,” said Smith.

The Haven is one of several new businesses that have emerged in recent years.  Leslie Irwin, a member of the Kuyahoora Valley Chamber of Commerce, said the growth is a positive sign for the community.

“Its growth, it’s positive; it brings people to the area and it supports our local restaurants. We have the Alamo, we have quite a few good restaurants in the area, Rocky’s and the snowmobile trails, so all the people together, supporting each other with growth, it’s just positive for the community and the area,” said Irwin.

The welcoming atmosphere also attracted Dikndurt Distillery to open a tasting room on Main Street.  Kayla Smith, the owner, expressed appreciation for the community’s support.

“We’ve always felt really welcomed; whether it be the residents or the surrounding area, everyone’s been really helpful. They always have great stories to tell of what this building used to be,” said Smith.
