
 The number of Sri Lankan residents in Sanmu City, Chiba Prefecture, has surpassed 1,200, a 20-fold increase over the past 12 and a half years. Saji Nishijima (51), a city employee originally from Sri Lanka, teaches foreign residents Japanese while also providing guidance on daily life and administrative procedures. "I hope that Japanese and foreign residents can help each other and live happily together," he said.
