Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama said all homes affected by recent flooding will be compensated, following a meeting of the Civil Emergencies Committee convened to address the situation.

Rama said the government has increased investments in flood prevention and emergency response to 11 million euros this year, about 8% more than last year. He noted that 536 irrigation and drainage canals have been rehabilitated, significantly improving flood management infrastructure.

The prime minister said the most significant investment has been the transformation of emergency response forces, which he described as previously ineffective but now fully operational and mobilized.

“Unusual rainfall affected the entire region, but Albania today is in a very different position,” Rama said, adding that the government has managed its obligations responsibly despite inheriting high public debt when it came to power.

Rama assured affected residents that the state will stand by them, providing compensation not only for damaged homes but also for livestock losses. He said emergency teams and local municipalities remain mobilized around the clock in all affected areas and will continue working until the situation is fully resolved.

The prime minister also called on members of parliament to remain engaged with communities during and after the emergency.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation as recovery efforts remain ongoing.
