So much innovation friendly environment we got here right ? The Chinese government isn’t actively targeting their best minds.

  2. Not surprising when you consider the US is run by old white men who regularly take ~~bribes~~ campaign contributions from big oil who have also corrupted our media to the point where a lot of people think burning more oil is a *good* thing.

Oh, and big oil has collected somewhere in the neighborhood of trillions in taxpayer subsidies for their troubles.

But never mind that because average Americans are getting tax breaks on electric vehicles and we can’t have that because it’s Marxism or whatever.

Honestly, is this news? Anyone who has been paying even a modicum of attention has realised that China has had an enormous advantage in solar and battery technology for like 5 years now at least. Probably longer.

Yeah… I remember when people were screaming that the US needed to invest in green energy manufacturing but Republicans blocked it. Good job

You have a president who went public with the saying.. drill baby drill.. what do you expect?

  6. It’s just a natural consequence of the vast majority of Americans believing climate change is a hoax. It doesn’t matter if renewables are now cheaper than fossil fuels, most Americans consider them “woke” and “evil”. The reasons the US is behind China and the EU are ideological rather than environmental or financial.

  7. China is leading more and more and putting technology to good use. Can you believe they trust vaccines? In other places culture wars have made a target of science, because inequality is so high that you have to make people doubt everything in order to swallow that.

  8. China has and will continue to invest heavily in Renewable Energy not because of Climate Change but because they want to both reduce their reliance on foreign oil and dominate the market place in tbr knowledge that oil has a finite life. .

Where the vast majority of western countries only plan for however long the Government sits before an election China plans for the next 5, 10, 15 20+ years..

This is one of China’s greatest strengths.

The ability to be able to put a plan into action that might take 10, 15, 20 years to fully implement gives a country a massive advantage over countries where Governments will only consider plans that can be fully implemented within their election cycle.

Innovations in Renewable Energy is a perfect example.

China fully accepting that it will take decades to perfect as well as a substantial amount of money but ultimately it will mean they will dominate the Market Place as they will so far ahead of any competition whereas other Countries have no interest because they will have very little to show for the level of investment required come the next election in a few years.

  9. These big, ugly windmills – total eyesores, very loud, very expensive – nobody needs them, believe me, they’re a terrible idea and everyone knows it! We need more OIL!!!

You just found out now? China is killing us. They invest in infrastructure, education and make decisions based on science. America is under educated and makes decisions based on religion and corruption.

  11. I mean duh? The inherent problem with the US when it comes to technological innovation is that all decisions are made through the filter of culture war bullshit and what a really specific sliver of rich people want.

China can simultaneously have advancement in a bunch of different fields because they haven’t decided arbitrarily that climate concerns are a hoax or whatever.

  12. US loses a lot of emerging tech. Today’s emerging tech is tomorrow’s industry. This is how you bring manufacturing back. Not by moving stuff that exists already somewhere but by investing into emerging tech and the future supply chain for it.
For instance, the US forced TSMC to build Fab in Arizona. But there is an emerging field of photonic chips. Potentially, photonic chips would be able to take over the datacenters. They don’t require 5nm lithography and the chips are generally much simpler. They are more akin to MEMS. So, if the photonic chips will happen this Arizona Fab will become obsolete.

Another thing is rare earth metals. China has most of them because it owns the supply chain which is needed to refine them. The process produces a lot of toxic waste which explains the scarcity. This is also one of the main reasons why the Trump admin wants to have Greenland. But, there is an emerging field of bioleaching. Bioleaching allows to extract metals out of ores using microorganisms. Currently, around 20% of the world’s copper is produced using bioleaching. And the methods to extract rare earth metals are being developed.

A similar story happened in the US in the past with big steel and minimills.

  13. We’re too busy holding ourselves back to fill politicians’ pockets and keep old, dirty energy producers happy and rich to make any strides in cleaner alternatives. There’s a reason we just keep blocking Chinese companies from selling stuff rather than actually trying to compete. Not to mention green energy is apparently anti-American according to a large majority of our country who don’t even like people riding bikes and will roll coal on them.

  14. This type of ‘comparison’ is very relevant for the US market, unfortunately. They’re severely unaware of how far away they are, tech wise, from China. The public at large, i mean, not people here.

  15. China is in another Era already. Just visit some of their cities and you will feel like they are living in 2050 while we are stuck in this shit show.
Obviously China is really big, so there are places not that advanced yet but they are moving fast, Europe and America are beyond done…

IMO as far as green tech the ‘battle’ is hell and gone between the US and China. Look at the innovations in electric vehicles that the Chinese are able to throw out, in what.. a decade? China now leads the world for electric cars, and basically green power tech. The US isn’t even in contention anymore.

  17. Turns out the country massively investing and using it is a ahead of the country that clings to oil like it cures cancer
