The growth trajectory of tourism in North Macedonia continues, with foreign visitors serving as the main driver of tourism activity. According to official data from the country’s State Statistical Office, in October 2025, 109,535 tourists and 204,718 overnight stays were recorded.

At this point, it is worth noting that 78.2% of tourists were international, while 70.9% of overnight stays came from foreign visitors—an indication of the gradual strengthening of international demand. Meanwhile, domestic tourists accounted for 21.8% of arrivals and 29.1% of overnight stays.

The picture becomes even clearer when looking at the ten-month period. From January to October 2025, the total number of tourists increased by 5.4% compared to the same period in 2024. On the other hand, domestic tourists decreased by 2.3%, while foreign visitors recorded a strong rise of 9.3%, a development that offsets the decline and keeps the overall growth positive.

At the same time, total overnight stays increased slightly by 0.6%, showing that the growth in arrivals has not yet fully translated into longer stays—an area that remains open for policy measures and tourism planning.

In conclusion, the data reflect a tourism market that is maturing internationally but continues to seek tools for qualitative upgrading and for increasing average spending and overnight stays. A narrative familiar to the Greek tourism sector as well, with different scales but similar challenges.
