I always wanted to paint something classic and memorable in my childhood and one of those would definitely be the icecream van.
I don’t see that many icecream vans in my life – that pink one above is the only one I encountered most.
If someone could tell me which one is the real classic or most iconic in Melbourne. I have heard of Mr Whippy, but never seen one.

The price these days seem insane. Think it’s like $8.00 for a basic soft serve
always with a guy who barely speaks english and thinks everyone wants to order the most expensive ice cream.
Mr Whippy is my OG ice cream van. Playing greensleeves.
looks great but i just watched Mr Mercedes so…
I wish we had “Home Ice Cream” vans in Melbourne.
The real classics are in the Mr Whippy Grand Prix:

Homer’s Ice Cream Van on The Simpsons has got to be up with the best.
It’s gotta be on an old Bedford tho
During Christmas there was a Mr Whippy van parked in one of the best streets for Christmas lights. He was doing a roaring trade. When we got closer we saw he was an Indian man and his van said “Mr Vhippe” 😂 Love it!
these were so good
Is it true that they all have territory that they protect fiercely?
Me and my friend got an ice cream from one of them at Lilydale lake one time and it tasted like it was filled with dust for some reason. It’s put me off those soft serve vans for a while :(( Hopefully one day I will find one that renews my faith in the ice cream van.
My favourite thing that I’ve seen on my local suburb’s Facebook page is whenever someone posted a photo of this van and said “We spotted Mr Whippy!” the guy that owned the van would reply back “I AM NOT MR WHIPPY”. He was clearly super pressed about it.
It’s only a Mr Whippy if it says it on the back/front/side, otherwise it’s just a Sparkling Ice Cream Truck
I grew up in Thomastown in the 90s, there was a Turkish family that owned one of these ice cream trucks, their son used to drive it during his school holidays through the neighborhood when he wasn’t old enough to hold a license, he’d blast rap music instead of the standard ice cream truck music
The one that’s always outside the zoo
