TRAVERSE CITY — Consumers Energy is investing $5 million in 2026 to assist families in Michigan facing rising living costs. This funding will support direct assistance, community partnerships and programs aimed at helping manage energy costs.

Lauren Snyder, senior vice president and chief customer and growth officer, emphasized that affordable energy is crucial for customers, stating, “Our customers are facing real pressure in their everyday lives and we believe energy shouldn’t add to that burden.”

The $5 million will be distributed through partnerships with local organizations that connect directly with communities. Partner agencies include United Way South Central Michigan, The Salvation Army – Great Lakes Division and TrueNorth Community Services among others. These organizations help provide resources to those in need and facilitate assistance programs. Customers seeking help can contact 2-1-1, a free service connecting Michiganders to nonprofits that assist with basic needs such as energy bills and food. For additional resources, customers can visit ConsumersEnergy.com/Assistance or explore offers tailored to aid in payment assistance and energy savings at ConsumersEnergy.com/Offers.“When our customers are making hard choices at the kitchen table, energy should not be one of them,” Snyder said. “We have a responsibility to meet customers where they are – and that’s exactly what we are doing.” Consumers Energy plans to roll out further actions throughout the year to enhance support for families.
