Sweden’s arms procurement agency has awarded Saab a 1.5-billion Swedish krona ($162.9-million) contract for the delivery of Trackfire Remote Weapon Stations (RWS).

The order supports the Swedish Army and the Amphibious Battalion 2030 program, which aims to enhance Sweden’s amphibious capabilities to address heightened threats and meet operational requirements associated with NATO integration.

Under the program, the Swedish Armed Forces seeks to strengthen operations in archipelagos and coastal environments through the introduction of new capabilities, including advanced mortar boats equipped with Patria’s NEMO system for indirect fire, alongside the integration of Trackfire RWS to improve direct firepower and counter-drone defense.

Deliveries of the Trackfire RWS are scheduled between 2026 and 2028.

“We are honoured that Trackfire RWS has been selected as a crucial part of the future capabilities for the Swedish amphibious forces and the Swedish Army,” head of Saab’s business area Surveillance, Carl-Johan Bergholm, said.

“This order reflects our commitment to delivering state-of-the-art solutions that meet the evolving needs of modern defence. Trackfire RWS, with its precision and adaptability, will be a vital asset in enhancing operational effectiveness.”

Trackfire Remote Weapon Station

Designed for modern, dynamic combat environments, the RWS can engage targets while firing on the move and provide aerial coverage when mounted on naval vessels or land vehicles, as well as when deployed in fixed, stationary defense roles.

Equipped with a stabilized sensor module decoupled from the weapon’s axes — and therefore isolated from recoil effects — the system enables operators to maintain a continuous line of sight on the target, significantly reducing target acquisition time.

For counter-drone engagements, the system is armed with a 30×113mm M230LF Bushmaster chain gun as its primary weapon, enabling effective neutralization of uncrewed aerial systems using proximity-fuzed ammunition.

The weapon station is also compatible with a wide range of weapon effectors, including the M2 12.7mm heavy machine gun, FN MAG 58 7.62mm general-purpose machine gun, Mk19 40×53mm grenade launcher, and the H&K GMG 40×53mm grenade launcher.

In addition, Trackfire can be integrated with complementary non-lethal effectors and electronic jamming systems.
