Defense Minister Ahn Gyu-back says the government is considering contacting North Korea via the UN Command to propose a joint investigation based on the North’s claim that South Korean drones infiltrated its airspace.
Ahn disclosed the plans Monday before the National Assembly’s Legislation and Judiciary Committee when asked by ruling Democratic Party Rep. Park Jie-won if the government might make such a proposal once it gets the drones from the North.
On the possibility that civilian drones were involved, Ahn said the government believes they were.
Ahn’s remarks come on the same day a joint military-police investigative task force was formed to look into the North’s claims.
The reclusive state announced on Saturday that it shot down a South Korean drone in September and another one January 4, after the drones violated the regime’s airspace.
