Random thought while watching the tennis: how much do we reckon a DJ playing an afternoon set at the AO is actually pulling in? 🎾🎧

  1. Well firstly it wouldn’t be a salary, DJing is a gig business. They’d get a lump sum for the show, which when worked out to a per hour rate, would be kind of high upon face value, but then you’d need to factor in all the unpaid hours of preparation and underlying work they’d have to do. Assuming they’re not a MacBook Spotify playlist DJ πŸ˜‚

  2. I’ve played acoustic music at AO last six years, they tend to have a set hourly rate for most music performers. $150 per performer, per hour last year. The DJs are booked by the same company, Solution Entertainment and I think have the same rate, but could change depending on what venue they’re playing in. If we played in The O, the fancy dinner spot where politicians and celebs sometimes go to, it might be an extra $50 p/h.

I’m not playing this year unfortunately, first one I’m missing in ages, but was always my favourite gig of the year. Hope you enjoy the tourney!

  3. It’s gotta be between $750-$1.5k surely? They know AO has the money so probably asked for a lump sum for their 1.5hr set?

Unfortunately low bar of entry means for a lot of gigging DJs, the per hour rate goes lower and lower because new market entrants are willing to play “for the exposure”. That and because people fundamentally understand what a DJ does they’re competing with Spotify.Β

  5. Has to be atleast 2x AO water bottles and a Cap.

Which based on the Exchange Rate of AO merch would be a premium if they sold them before the event ended, Post event it would be like an NFT.
