“There has been no traffic since 4 am between Piornos, Torre and Lagoa Comprida, on National Road 338, which crosses the central massif, because of the snow, which continues to fall with some intensity,” a source from the Sub-regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command of Beiras and Serra da Estrela told the Lusa news agency.
The resources of the Snow Removal Centre of Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) are on the ground, but there is still no forecast for the reopening of the road to the highest point on the mainland.
The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) forecasts snowfall today in the highest points of the Serra da Estrela, gradually descending to 1,400 meters.
