Greece is at the forefront of renewable energy, according to data from WindEurope that was shared via LinkedIn by the Hellenic Wind Energy Association (HWEA).

According to the data, Greece’s electricity mix for January 6 was made up of 58.2% wind power. January 6th marked the second day in a row that Greece led Europe in the percentage of energy sourced from wind power.
In the first half of 2025, Greece’s total connected wind capacity reached 5,507 MW. 37 new turbines were added during that six-month period, representing €180 million in new investments as well as a 2.8% increase in total capacity, compared to the end of 2024.

Central Greece remains Greece’s wind powerhouse, as it hosts 44% of the nation’s wind installations (2,427 MW), followed by the Peloponnese (709MW) and Eastern Macedonia–Thrace (535MW).
Greece’s wind energy sector is poised for a significant surge, with over 1 GW of new wind farms either currently under construction or officially contracted. HWEA expects that the vast majority of these projects will integrated into Greece’s national power grid within the next 18 months.
