Former Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnović has died at the age of 60, his family announced, according to American and Serbian media.

The family has asked for privacy and thanked everyone for their outpouring of support and love, ABC15 Arizona reports on its website.

The cause of death was not given.

Brnović, whose parents are Serbs who immigrated to the United States of America (USA), was nominated by US President Donald Trump last year to be ambassador to Belgrade, but he later withdrew the nomination. No explanation was given for the withdrawal of the nomination.

The US has not had an ambassador in Belgrade since January last year, when Christopher Hill left the position upon Trump’s return to the White House.
