  1. >Per a report by Roya News, **around 16,800 ticketholders cancelled their World Cup tickets overnight**.

More likely, those tickets were bought by **scalper bots**, not by real people.

We’ve seen this behavior before with other events and it has nothing to do with “political climate”.

  2. Think about it, they will detain you if they don’t like you.

Worst holiday ever CANCEL and refund. Do not go to America.

  3. For anyone who’s still undecided… it’s not worth to get detained and harassed at best,or get shot in the face at worst. The Americans couldn’t be more clear, they don’t want or need your money!

Watch it on TV….half the whole point of traveling to these events is to also enjoy the location you are visiting. At the moment, there doesn’t seem much to enjoy in the US. Use the money you save to have an extravagant dinner every single match.

  5. Sounds like bots/resellers to me . I can guarantee those seats will be filled when the game starts

  6. 17k sounds like a lot but its actually not much in this context. AFAIK Stadiums for world cup need to have at least 30k capacity, so 17k cancelling would be like less than a match being cancelled

If he invades Greenland there won’t be any European teams there anyway. The same for Olympics. You can then rename the tournaments to “World Series”.

  8. The source for this is a news post and their source is ‘a surge of social media posts’..

  9. They haven’t… The tickets are non refundable… You can’t cancel them

The source the articles uses? social media posts….

This is actually fake news… 😂😂😂😂

    Don’t watch it either.

Or if you simply must, at least don’t pay for it. Find a free stream.

  11. As much as I like the line, it’s bullshit. People who are concerned about the political climate didn’t buy tickets in the first place.

This is likely bots cancelling their tickets cause they aren’t selling on resell platforms.

  12. I didn’t buy tickets bc of the political climate—I don’t want my $$ supporting Trump or his image

Don’t blame anyone for not comin to America, they gonna squeeze visitors for everything they got while they here for the games

  14. 17k is a drop in the bucket for World Cup attendance. 2022 WC attendance was 3.4 million for 64 games. This World Cup is expected to beat that number by a mile.

  15. If anything we should be cancelling them over Trump’s foreign policies with regards to Venezuela and Greenland and over the human rights abuses of those bing killed and abducted by ICE. Foreigners are not safe in the USA.

  16. the world cup isn’t until June? So much can happen in 5 months. It’s only been 14 days of January and we already have 2 countries to take over.

USA will be a civil war zone before then.

  17. I mean the administration said ICE will be active at the events. Who would want to see risk being violently rounded up and raped and beaten in a cage?

  18. And many did not even wanted to go because of the same reason. The total amount is probably hundreds of thousands who decided not to go.

We get stories like this every time the world cup happens, and it turns out to be bigger and better. Football fans do not give a fuck about anything except ball.

It is not boycott if you actually fear for your safety. Anyways, 17K is a drop in the sea, to be honest.

  21. It’s absurd to celebrate a world cup on a politically inestable country with a fascist regime.

It’s like doing a World Cup on Mussolini’s Italia, or Olympics in Hitler’s Germany….

    Hold on..

  22. Wait, so these people have no issue with FIFA, but they do have a problem with the US?

Don’t get me wrong, I also have a huge issue with the US government. But if you’re doing things based on morals, you shouldn’t be giving FIFA a penny of your money anyway.

  23. Jesus.. the price of those tickets is fking insane. For some of those prices you could go on one or two of those week long, all inclusive vacations. And take your whole immediate family with you.

    Blows my mind.

  24. This is fucking typical. Scotland qualify for the first time in 28 years and it’s an absolute car crash.

  25. single_plum_floating on

    > Given that FIFA has a strict no cancellation policy on sold tickets for the World Cup, it is likely that the figure is reflective of people cancelling their participation in the in the third phase of ticket sales for the event – either the “random draw” selection process, or purchase via member organizations.

    So a nothing burger.

Wake me up when hotels start not being fully booked and people do something that isnt a form not being filled out.

Seriously this entire news piece is based on #BoycottWorldCup2026 twitter posts.

  26. Lmao the human rights concerns in the US led FIFA to schedule an ’emergency meeting’.

I’m sure a lot will come of this meeting, seeing as the last World Cup was held in Qatar without a blink of an eye.
