Croatia will once again open the doors to its cultural heritage with free guided city tours taking place across the country this month.
The initiative is organised by the Association of Tourist Guide Societies of Croatia, with the support of the Croatian National Tourist Board, as part of the well-established national project “Upoznaj svoju zemlju” (Get to Know Your Country).
When and where
The free tours and accompanying programmes will be held on 18 January 2026, starting at 12:00 noon, in numerous towns and cities throughout Croatia.
Local licensed tourist guides will lead citizens and visitors through historical centres, landmarks and cultural sites, offering professional insight into Croatia’s heritage.
Promoting heritage and quality tourism
The main aims of the project are to promote Croatia’s cultural heritage, raise awareness of the importance of professional tourist guiding, and familiarise citizens with the fundamental values of their local communities.
The initiative also highlights the challenges faced by domestic tourist guides, while encouraging the development of sustainable and responsible tourism. By doing so, it underlines the essential role tourism professionals play in preserving heritage and shaping Croatia’s international reputation.
Following strong public interest and positive media response in previous years, the project has become a recognised tradition marking the International Recognition Day of the Republic of Croatia, which is officially commemorated on 15 January.
Further details about participating cities and tour programmes can be found on Association of Tourist Guide Societies of Croatia Facebook page.
