No citizen of North Macedonia in the territory of Iran has so far requested assistance from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade (MFFAFT), while the head of diplomacy, Timço Mucunski, expresses confidence that all resources are ready if there is a need for evacuation, despite the fact that we do not have a resident diplomatic-consular representation in that country.

“At the moment, we have not been requested for assistance by a citizen of North Macedonia in the territory of Iran,” Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Timço Mucunski stated today.

He recalled that a few days ago, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade issued an appeal informing citizens that they should not travel to Iran due to the deteriorating security situation.

“There is indeed a tendency for the security situation to deteriorate there, and we announced several contact numbers from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and our Embassy in Ankara, the Republic of Turkey, which can help mobilize the state if there is a need to evacuate our citizens. Bilateral cooperation with Iran is not at the highest level. You know this, we do not have a resident diplomatic-consular representation in that country, but all our resources are ready to be made available if there is a need to evacuate our citizens,” said Mucunski in response to a question from journalists during a visit to the Chamber of Commerce for Information and Communication Technologies – MASIT.

Due to the deteriorating security situation in the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade yesterday called on citizens of North Macedonia who are in the territory of this country to leave the country as soon as possible and safely. At the same time, it also called for the postponement of all non-essential travel to Iran.

As informed by the Ministry, several capacities have already been made available for assistance to citizens of the Republic of Macedonia through the 24-hour SOS hotline +389 75 268 736, the email address globalsos@mfa.gov.mk, as well as through the hotline of the diplomatic-consular representation of the Republic of Macedonia in Ankara: +90 539 456 97 10.
