The PN wants to ensure that Malta always remains a constructive voice in Europe and in the world through a foreign policy that is first and foremost based on dialogue, Leader of the Opposition and of the PN Alex Borg said.

Borg welcomed members of the Diplomatic Corps accredited to Malta at the PN HQ for the exchange of New Year greetings.

In his address to Ambassadors and Honorary Consuls, Alex Borg thanked all diplomats for their continuous work in favour of strong international relations built on mutual respect.

The Leader of the PN described the year that has just ended as one of profound renewal for the PN, “which today stands consolidated as a serious political force, prepared to assume responsibility for the leadership of the country.” He stressed that this renewal was built on stronger internal governance, policies based on competence and professionalism, and open dialogue with civil society, the business community, workers, and young people.

In light of the challenges Malta is facing, Borg emphasised the need for long-term vision and responsible leadership, particularly in environmental protection, sustainable planning, quality economic growth, and addressing the rising cost of living that is impacting families and businesses. He maintained that Malta’s prosperity must be based on resilience, social inclusivity, and economic stability.

With reference to the international context, the PN Leader noted how geopolitical volatility is creating particular pressures on small states such as Malta, making a serious stance in governance and a strong commitment to multilateralism essential. He reaffirmed the PN’s full commitment to the European Union and to Malta’s membership within it, stressing that the future of our country is inseparably linked to that of Europe.

Alex Borg stated that under a new Nationalist Government, Malta will continue to pursue policies built on respect for international law and the defence of national interests. He also referred to Malta’s role in multilateral fora, including the United Nations, the OSCE, the Commonwealth, the European Union, and the Council of Europe, as proof that our country can make an impact beyond its size.

Borg expressed his hope for a just and lasting peace, both in Ukraine and in the Middle East, while reiterating that Malta must always remain a strong voice in favour of diplomacy, peace, and international stability.

He extended greetings and thanks, on behalf of the PN, to the Apostolic Nuncio to Malta, Archbishop Savio Hon Tai-Fai, who also serves as Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, as he approaches the end of his term in our country.
