Seoul Metropolitan Council member Kim Kyung was questioned for over 16 hours over allegations that she gave money to former Democratic Party lawmaker Kang Sun-woo ahead of the 2022 local elections.

Leaving the police station at around 1:40 a.m. Friday, Kim told reporters that she truthfully explained everything as it was.

In the second round of questioning, Kim reportedly told the police that Kang’s former aide, surnamed Nam, first proposed Kim offering money for a party nomination ahead of the 2022 local elections and that he later delivered the money directly to Kang.

Nam reportedly told police last week that he met Kim with Kang at a café, briefly left the two alone, and was later instructed by Kang to load an item into a car.

Kang, however, has claimed that she had not known about the money until Nam reported it to her, adding that she ordered the money returned and confirmed the return.

Police plan to summon Kang for questioning next Tuesday to determine the facts surrounding the case.
