The information was disclosed to Lusa by the Minister for the Environment and Energy, Maria da Graça Carvalho, who also confirmed that the support will have a budget of €20 million.

Last December, the public programme to support the purchase of electric cars for individuals ran out within a few hours of the Environmental Fund opening the application period.

The Government allocated €8.8 million to support individuals and to award 2,200 incentives for the purchase of electric vehicles.

The programme provides that light electric passenger vehicles can receive between €4,000 and €5,000, depending on the type of beneficiary, and their price cannot exceed €38,500 (including VAT and associated expenses) or €55,000 for vehicles with more than five seats.

For bicycles (cargo bikes, with or without electric assistance, and electric and conventional bikes), support ranges from €500 to €1,500; electric motorcycles, mopeds, tricycles, and quadricycles can receive up to €1,500 in support.

Chargers for electric vehicle batteries are also eligible for support.

The measure included in the Green Mobility package aims to support the decarbonisation of the transport sector, which accounts for most carbon emissions in Portugal, and to improve environmental quality and encourage the use of more sustainable modes of mobility, according to the Ministry of Environment and Energy.
