  1. At least they are honest. Not sure how many people I have met who want to complain about loneliness but also not give up anything they get from independence.

Why is there such a big loneliness epidemic in Japan? This sounds miserable. Could this be the reason for the high suicide rates?

  3. Mental health is a big taboo in society. You are not encouraged to seek proper treatment for mental health issues. Much easier to stay single and happy than getting involved with someone who is hiding their issues.

Japan basically fosters that kind of thinking, doesn’t it? Because fitting into the group is so much work, it’s much easier to just be alone. When you’re alone, you don’t have to constantly read the air and maintain peace and think about age and social status. Japanese social interaction has so many unwritten laws, no wonder people prefer to be alone. When society values group assimilation over individuality, the only time you can be truly yourself is when alone.
