With what equipment? Canada’s military is so underfunded they don’t have the proper equipment to arm their troops. They’ll probably borrow weapons and ammo from other NATO troops

Damned if you do and damned if you don’t. We have a choice between ramping up tension with the US or making it even less likely that NATO will stand with us if we need it.

Trump has 3 more years. We will be in an alliance with EU and NATO for hopefully hundreds of years. We should stand with NATO and EU to protect their territories. If they want me to go… I’ll go.

I say this with a full appreciation that our risk is arguably higher than that of European nations…. Canada needs to stand against tyranny now, not later. We need to toe the line with our allies against American (or any) aggression. If we let them pick off nations one by one, the world is doomed.

If we are worth anything at all then we absolutely need to stand with the free world, how is this even a question?

Trump could have succeeded by forming an enhanced strategic economic/military partnership with Greenland. Giving Greenlanders visa free work and study in the U.S. etc.
COFA Compact Of Free Association.

Yes, it will probably piss off the USA, but we should do it anyway. We need to support our allies and hope they support us when we need it too.

Some boots on the ground will say a lot about solidarity. We best start sticking up for our friends, because the day might come when we need them to stick up for us.

Serious question…
Where was all the support for *US* when the USA threatened our annexation? Where was Europe’s firm response? Where was the global media outrage? Where was the offer of martial assistance?
Heck, where is it today?
Europe is clearly concerned with Denmark to a degree it just isn’t with us.
This is utterly unacceptable to me.
“With friends like these” and all that.

I don’t think this should be a question. We absolutely should send some troops, in a similar way that the Europeans have.
Trump is absolutely serious and if/when he goes for Greenland, he’ll go for Canada next to have everything north of the Mexican border. We need to show we’re serious, and that we’re with NATO

Do it. We need to show solidarity with our EU cousins (especially are cold bros).
Fascists want to tariff us more? Fine with me. Tax your own citizens. I understand it will hurt some of our industries exporting to the USA, but the feds are busting their asses on international trade deals. Time to do a bit of work and export somewhere else.

Trump wanted us to increase our military budget. Let’s do it. Right now. Send troops and equipment to Greenland

Did the Europeans stand up for Canada when President Trump was discussing annexing Canada as the 51st state? Canada does not need to make a symbolic gesture of sending 5 or 10 troops to Greenland. It’s a waste of time .

Absolutely terrible timing with the upcoming CUSMA renegotiation.
Even though it feels like the right move, I’m not sure that it is.
Maybe a compromise would be no troops on the ground, but some NATO exercises surrounding it? Idk. But it feels like a trap.
The Europeans can do some heavy lifting after they left us high and dry last time. If we send some troops after they get into a new Tarriff war that escalates with Trump it will be less conspicuous, he has the memory of a goldfish.

You know what would actually be a meaningful signal to the USA if they are in fact engaged in some militaristic takeover of the globe? Invest in border defence. Nothing too alarming. Nothing aggressive. Some dragon’s teeth here and there along the border. Maybe the UK/Italy/French coalition wants to sell us their anti-drone anti-air anti-cruise interceptor technology and maybe we want to look at land-based installations around Ottawa. If the punch to take the capital can be delayed at least one day it greatly complicates their plans that the Canadian state continues to function after they’ve crossed the border. Assuming they have any such plans. If they don’t: well concrete is cheap and we can also install that on our ships rather than relying on the American systems we currently do.

The US is setting itself up against everyone else in the world. After Greenland, Trump will be after Canada’s territory in the Arctic. Standing up now is necessary. Maybe, just maybe, there are enough sane legislators left in the US to stop this madman, and maybe, if Canada actually puts military boots on the ground, it will get their attention.

I think we should given The danger we face. Let’s pray France and Britain would protect us under their nuclear umbrella if things start looking dicey. I’m sure this is what’s being debated in Ottawa as we speak

CAF already in Greenland under American command for NORAD.
Now we may deploy more troops to Greenland for a notionally anti-American mission.
