Hesburger, the largest burger restaurant chain in Finland and the Baltic countries and one of the best-known fast-food brands in Europe, has invested EUR 1,000,000 in its 15th location in Romania, within the Cosmopolis residential complex.
“We are delighted to start 2026 with a new opening in Cosmopolis, the largest residential project built in Romania since 1989, and to already reach our 15th restaurant in Romania. We continue to build on the strong momentum achieved since entering Romania and offer all our customers sustainable and high-quality offerings,” says Ieva Salmela, Director of Communications & International Marketing, Hesburger.
The new restaurant has created 15 jobs and covers an area of 223 square meters. With 30 seats inside and another 32 seats on the terrace, the restaurant also includes self-service stations, WiFi access, and a drive-through for people arriving by car.
Hesburger entered the Romanian market in May 2024, with its first restaurant opening in Râmnicu Vâlcea. Since then, the company has opened a location at Henri Coandă International Airport in Otopeni, followed by restaurants in Brăila and three new openings in Bucharest—at AFI Cotroceni, Băneasa Shopping City, and Mega Mall. Iași became the first location in the Moldavia region, with an opening in April, followed by the first Hesburger drive-in in Romania, in Curtea de Argeș. Subsequently, the company opened restaurants in Buzău, Crevedia — the second drive-in, Pitești, and Craiova. Hesburger then opened its fifth location in Bucharest, in Promenada, as well as in Galați.
Hesburger products are renowned for their taste and quality, based on Hesburger sauces, created according to original recipes and produced in their own factories in Finland and Lithuania, but also for the fact that 100% beef is used for the burgers.
The Finnish company, founded by Heikki Salmela and his wife, Kirsti Salmela, started its fast-food business in 1966 in the small town of Naantali. A family business with a history of over 50 years, Hesburger currently operates in 9 countries and has over 490 restaurants.
Over the years, Hesburger has expanded its restaurant chain internationally and currently has: 259 locations in Finland, 68 in Lithuania, 54 in Estonia, 55 in Latvia, 33 in Bulgaria, 7 in Ukraine, 2 in Germany, one in Poland, and 15 in Romania. Hesburger has over 6,000 employees in Finland alone, and internationally the total number exceeds 9,100.
