  1. The woke right rules USA, what does the study add by “identifying” it? Did it identify it in Scandinavia for the first time?

  2. Thoraxekicksazz on

National interest means white only interests.

As a white cisgender man I find this and people that think that way disgusting.

I suppose we could have saved the money and just believed the guys with the tiki torches shouting that at the top of their lungs? At a rally to galvanize that concept? What was that – six or seven years ago?

  4. It’s almost like extremism is bad regardless of which political side it’s coming from.

  5. masterchedderballs96 on

What does this have to do with science? This is just horseshoe theory but worse!

  6. In other words they’re literal Nazis. The so-called “great replacement” conspiracy theory comes straight from the pages of Mein Kampf. And the desire for a strong leader who breaks the rules is you-know-who.

My uncle is one of them, and a huge trump supporter – to the point of being VERY lucky that we care about him and his partner as family far more than we care about his politics. He’s old and scared and we are not in the US, but he is someone I point to as to why we need to limit / remove the US propaganda outlets in our country. Freedom of expression, for the press, does not mean you get to use it as propaganda to create violence, hatred and division. It applies to individuals, not to corporations – which is different to the US where corpo’s have better rights than individuals.

My uncle is a victim of the US spreading its violence across the globe. He will go to his grave scared and wrong about life. He is a living warning of what will happen if you let the US peddle its nonsense in your country, so don’t let them. Turn them out and shut the door. The world will do better without America.

  8. Interestingly this study showed a moderate link to the woke left crowd justifying violence

  9. Now why would white people be scared of becoming the minority unless they knew that minorities get treated unfairly?

Good luck stopping procreation and mixing of various races. There is no stopping it at this point.

  11. IndependentThink4698 on

Pretty crazy that “poc,” i hate that term, move to “white” countries and then complain about white people

  12. It is true that white people are becoming a minority in the USA. It is true with affirmative action/DEI policies you are saying that specifically negatively impact white people in benefit of other groups. Just look at college admissions where Asian people had to have a 4.0 GPA, white people had to have like a 3.8 GPA and then other racial groups could have like a 3.0 GPA or lower and still have a higher chance of getting into college just because of their race.

Another thing that people should acknowledge is in group bias. Every single racial group has an in group bias except white people, specifically left leaning white people skew that.

Calling this a counterpart to woke is absurd.

Ethnonationalism is the counterpart to being aware of history and recognizing racism+ethnonationalism?

  14. Obvious_Tree3605 on

Now we just need to slap a catchy word on it and use it to describe every single person on the right or even right-leaning.

  15. >The study assessed whether participants believed that violence against “politically dangerous” people could be justified. The data showed that high scores on the left-wing Critical Social Justice scale had a small-to-moderate positive association with the justification of political violence. In contrast, the right-wing Critical Right Scale showed no meaningful statistical association with the approval of political violence in this specific dataset.

Gotta admit I was not expecting them to address this point. Has Finland even had any politically motivated violence in the current century?

  16. zenmonkeyfish1 on

Well… deliberate or not, the data is on their side

Demographic shifts in the US and Europe have accelerated in the last 20+ years

New York City is 30% white today down from 77% in 1970 and 94% in 1940

White people will be a minority at current trends by around 2050 or so which largely driven by rapid immigration (primarily latino)

  17. Are there any studies looking at what personality trait causes people to spam /r/science with garbage political ‘studies’?

  18. This is a brutally awful equivocation to say “counterpart”. This is as bad as saying “well Hitler breathed air, so aren’t we all a little bit like Hitler?” NO.

“Woke” is awareness of social injustices based on race, gender, religion, and sexuality, that are baked into the system by the biases of the historical social majority of white people, and how those injustices shaped our culture, political and economic systems, and have led to the current state of injustices and various paths to address and correct for these inequities in the present and future. “Woke” requires two things that “great replacement theory” does not – 1. knowledge of historical facts and 2. critical thinking.

“Great replacement theory” is white people blaming Jews and liberals for secretly attempting to destroy all white people. It’s literally just every white supremacist conspiracy theory reheated, from the Know Nothings to the KKK to the John Birch Society to the Turner Diaries to just typical Nazi paranoia.

These are, Gus Fring meme, NOT the same.

Remember. White people are only afraid of being minorities because they think they’ll be treated the same way they treated minorities.

Respectfully yours, a straight white man with a full time career, short hair, with an entirely blue eyed family that literally looks like every meme you see posted by white supremacists, but isn’t a raging idiot asshole.

  19. I think it’s sad that this is new to people – isn’t this obvious? If not, it’s proof that democrats are failing us because they should have spread this message loud and clear already

  20. > identity-based political attitudes, often described colloquially as “woke,”

It originally meant being awakened to the existence of social injustices. That is quite a corruption of the term “woke,” to redefine it to include white nationalists pushing the great replacement theory.

  21. White male grievance has been a founding political principle since literally Reconstruction.

  22. MNVikingsFan4Life on

I believe the term “scaredy pants” accurately describes this cultural mindset on the right. They are terrified of their own inability and fear others will fill the gaps they leave when they fail to raise their children correctly

  23. Horseshoe Theory has existed since the 70’s. Go figure that two ideologically extreme polarities operate with similar parallels.

    This is nothing new.

  24. That sign is a weird way to say “I can only compete with my peers if I’m given an advantage”

  25. Yeah, this isn’t anything new. It’s also false equivalence to say that white nationalist ideas are the same as an understanding that systematic racism exists. I remember hearing about the great replacement back in elementary school. I grew up in the rural south where the Klan was still active. The idea goes all the way back to France in the 1800s.
I despise having this in my search history just to counter propaganda from a mega-poster trying to drive the narrative.
    Do better r/science mods.
