ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR)- Administrators at the Science Museum of Western Virginia have confirmed the institution will be leaving its space at Center in the Square by the end of 2026.
Executive director Mary Roberts addressed recent concerns in a letter to patrons posted on social media.
“While there is uncertainty as to where the museum will live beyond 2026, we have been actively exploring options for our future home,” wrote Roberts. “We look forward to sharing more soon.”
According to Roberts, the museum started more than 50 years ago by local teachers to give people a chance to experience science outside the classroom.
“Throughout our history, we have called many places home,” wrote Roberts. “But one thing has never changed: our deep partnership with local schools, organizations, and families.”
Roberts said the museum provides the following services to students in Roanoke City, Roanoke County, Salem, and Botetourt:
-
Partner organizations supporting early childhood learning
Roberts said the museum can be a child’s first exposure to science, robotics, animals, and inquiry-based learning.
