The Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda said that Ukraine and its allies – the United States and Europe – are showing willingness for peace, but Russia is not showing any goodwill. He expressed this stance in a comment.

“The United States, Europe, Ukraine, we hear nothing from the other side of the barricades – that is, this is Russia. So, I think their bombing or these aggressive actions that were carried out over the past weeks demonstrate that Russia is at the stage of “missile talks”. We are trying to speak in a diplomatic language. And they are negotiating “the language of missiles” – Nausėda said.

He stressed that the issue of territorial integrity, notably Donbas, remains critical in the peace plan that the United States has developed with 20 points. He also noted that Europe should intensify pressure on Russia through a new package of sanctions that should cover energy companies, financial institutions, and the “shadow” fleet.

The Lithuanian president added that preserving partnership within NATO and preventing steps that could split or destabilize the alliance is important. He commented on the United States’ statements regarding the seizure of Greenland.

“Territorial integrity is the cornerstone of international security. If we try to destroy it, the entire architecture would collapse. The destabilization of NATO would be very bad news for us and very good news for the Kremlin,” Nausėda said.

Earlier, Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs stated that despite the emergence of new international topics, including discussions about Greenland, the attention of European and American leaders to Russia’s war against Ukraine remains unchanged.
