According to county administrator Jimmie Ladner, Sheriff Adam cited health reasons as the driving force behind this announcement. Adam’s last day in office will be Thursday.

That same day, the Board of Supervisors President will consult with other supervisors to name an interim sheriff to fill the role until a special election is held in November, Ladner confirmed.

“Ricky is a good man and has been a good sheriff,” Ladner told WLOX News.

Adam won his fourth election as Sheriff in 2023, beating three other opponents in the Republican primary. He was unopposed in the general election.

Before winning his first Sheriff election in 2011, Adam spent 10 years as an elected Justice Court Judge in Hancock County. According to his bio on the Sheriff’s Office website, Adam racked up more than 200 hours of continuing education at the Mississippi Judicial College in Oxford.

In the years before taking office, Adam worked as a real estate agent. He’s a graduate of Bay High School and received an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.
