Apparently some republicans were upset by Carney’s speech in Davos and are crying for us to ignore Trump, claiming this won’t be a long-term issue and everything will go back to normal eventually.

  3. GraveDiggingCynic on

Tell you what, Republicans. Prove it by impeaching and convicting him, thus demonstrating to Canada and the rest of the world that we all have nothing to worry about.

But if, after the seizure of Maduro, you think there’s anyone left outside your borders who thinks that Trump an be safely ignored, let us disabuse you of that right now.

it is true. trump has been a disruptive tool for 10 years now.

think about 2015. felt like good times right? lots of innovation and excitement for where the world would go. then trump showed up and the polarization and division which came as a result – not saying this is his fault but we went on a dark turn from where we were.

Perhaps thsoe times in 2015 are long forgotten about. but i hope that after trump is gone we can return or starting going back to a mature human race that that was becoming united and connected via our innovation and technology.

I hope by 2028 we can finally turn the page on the age of the boomers.

The arrogant ignorance and dissonance displayed by Americans here speaks volumes. They are so self-centered they can’t understand the impact this administration is having around the world. There will be a lag effect to the US, but it is coming back to bite them economically, socially, and with reduced intelligence and security due to broken trust, etc.

    >Our relationship is inseparable — and we may have disagreement, but again, the people of Canada and the people of the United States have so much in common, it’s an understatement,” said Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C. “So this is just a blip.”

Sorry Joe, it most certainly is seperable. And you motherfuckers are the ones doing it, not us.

“You cant leave me, you need me” said everything abusive husband ever. They just cant help themselves. Even when theyre trying to deescalate, they still use the language of abusers.

America fucked around, now theyre gunna find out.

  7. Ironic coming from a party that is going blip blip blip blip blip blip blip blip blip blip blip blip blip blip blip blip blip blip blip blip blip blip blip blip

  8. I imagine they want Venezuela to ignore the more than 80 dead when they bombed their capital and kidnapped their leader? What a joke.

  9. America re-elected him despite extra years of getting to see exactly who and what he was. And so much of the establishment and authorities are letting him get away with crimes and horrific moral acts.

    This is not a blip.

The amount that Canada can trust America is far, far less than it used to be.

The US government is breaking treaties and agreements and their response is “we’ll go back to normal in a few years.” It’s just not realistic, the US has shown it can’t be trusted to abide by its own treaties so, like all treaty breaking countries, you can only make short agreements without any serious expectations of trustworthiness. The US has to expect countries to be wary and willing to break agreements with them as fast as they have been. It’s stopped being about Trump and it has ended up being a question of continuance in government

  11. Ok republicans, stop falling in line. Stand up and use your checks and balances instead of shallow words! You have the power to stop Trump!

  12. Brilliant_Let6532 on

Assuming we can ignore Trump, it’s a bit harder to ignore the 70+million people who voted for him and the millions who would look at the past year and still find enough to like to vote for him again.

  13. lol, lmao even. Prove it then. Show us you mean business and impeach your pedophilic wannabe dictator in diapers.

These are just empty words by republicans. If they are serious that things will go back to normal (nobody believes this) they need to prove it. We’re done taking their word for it because their word doesn’t mean anything anymore.

Show us first, then we’ll consider being amicable.

  14. For all their talk of having crafted a system of check and balances, it’s clear they are meaningless when the branches of government that are intended to be equal to the Executive do nothing to rein in a clearly corrupt and dangerous President who is breaking laws on a constant basis. Congress has abdicated its responsibility to be a check on the Executive. They’ve confirmed his unqualified Cabinet appointees. They could act to impeach but they don’t. The Supreme Court, having been reduced to a partisan branch of the GOP to do its bidding, bends constitutional interpretation to ensure legal challenges opposed to the Executive’s actions fail. The courts have allowed partisan gerrymandering to give the GOP an inherent electoral advance and have eroded democracy. To say Trump is a blip ignores that the Republican Party laid the groundwork for this over twenty+ years. It’s not a blip. It’s the new normal.

Nazi party members want Europe to ignore Hitler

Idk, maybe if you want people to ignore your fascist leader you will not continue to give all your power to the fascist leader? The Republicans were far right before, so it’s not that much of a leap. There’s a reason why they’re not going to do anything, especially if they haven’t already (they agree with Trump but not how overt he’s being).

  16. Notgreygoddess on

Right. Stars & Stripes plastered on a map of our country posted by YOUR President. We’re supposed to ignore it. Take off, eh!

  17. 2016 to 2020 could have been called a blip. His lack of impeachment and re-election onwards was a confirmation of the trend.

  18. Trump is a (man) child that is crying at restaurants, airplanes, community centers, etc. You can’t ignore that. You kick them out.

  19. Republicans who worship the United States empire like a God really have their fingers on the pulse of the world and how other countries feel about them.

  20. slappingdragon on

That’s their strategy. Wait it out and hope the gorilla tearing up the room will get tired and go away.

This is what America is run by. Weak men and women in the Republican party too cowardly to step up and take a stand when they know something is wrong. He is their problem and they have the power to do something but they rather passively let him damage their country’s reputation.

And calling him a blip is insulting to everyone who has received the damage he has left behind. His “blip” has already have long term effects and damages that would decades to undo, fix or recovers and like an evil farmer he has planted the seeds of his ideology onto a new generation that will continue on what he has started.

  21. Nah too late, trust is utterly broken. Downplaying this as “just a blip” when all these members of congress , and frankly the American populace, is complicit in all this shit is disrespectful and delusional.

How can we ever trust America again after this? Even after a Democrat President comes in, how can we trust that a Trump 2.0 won’t be back in office 2-3 terms from now.

It’s sad but the like Carney said, “nostalgia is not a strategy”. We’ve got to pave a new way forward relying on ourselves and allies we can actually depend on. Unfortunately America has shown they just aren’t that ally anymore.

  22. PerpetuallyLurking on

He’s not “just a blip” – he has flouted all laws and conventions and **gotten away with it**; others will follow his example! JFC! Caesar dealt the death blow to the Republic **because** Marius and Sulla got away with their bullshit! Sulla marched on Rome and was given **no consequences**, of course Caesar fucking did it too!

Trump has gotten away with so fucking much that whoever comes after could ***easily*** deal the death blow and someone **WILL** come after **BECAUSE TRUMP IS GETTING AWAY WITH IT!**

  23. No_Tangerine993 on

Nope we refuse to play the role of the battered spouse and wait for the abusive partner to apologize and swear they’ll change and never beat us again.

  24. DesharnaisTabarnak on

Trump only gets to do what he does because the GOP is little more than a rubber stamp party for him across the USA’s supposed “checks and balances”. They’ve had dozens of opportunities to get off the MAGA train and nearly all of them passed up every opportunity. They wear every single action of the Trump administration on their sleeves, they just don’t like being rightly assigned responsibility for them.

  25. The party that nominated him and approved every cabinet sycophant he put up wants us to just ignore him? This is well beyond just him. His base loves everything they do and they’ll find someone else to do it after he’s gone.

I think most of the world including us were willing to do that in the first term. We saw how that term ended with Jan 6. They saw all of that and knew what he was and put him in again. That’s not just a flaw in Trump it’s a problem in their whole system and the American people themselves.

  26. It’s unfortunate that the Canadian leadership has chosen this time to respond the way they did. The US and Canada have great opportunities to collaborate in the area of critical minerals and rare earths and lessen our dependence on China. … I’m confident our countries will work through these differences.”

    Respectfully, get bent.

  27. I have a better idea for the Republicans. How about YOU deal with your deranged leader? You all have a constitutional amendment for this type of situation. Use it.

  28. grathontolarsdatarod on

    Joe Wilson.

Impeach your present and reign in your federal security forces, apologize for both, and then maybe the rest of the world, including Canada will talk about moving forward.

Congress could stop much of trump.

    They do not.

    That is noted.

  29. FearIs_LaPetiteMort on

To the “blip” crowd. America interfered in our NEP 40+ years ago. There’s been decades of illegal soft wood lumber disputes. Trump didn’t start this, he’s just the the loud, angry toddler poster boy du jour.
