Newark Lab secured a 61-48 victory over Technology in a SEC-National division contest on Thursday afternoon in Newark.
Khayere Hurd led all scorers with a dominant 31-point performance for Newark Lab. Imir Kelly added 11 points and showcased his defensive prowess with five steals to help Newark Lab (3-8) control the game.
Technology (3-13) was paced by Nate Alvarez, who contributed 11 points and nine rebounds. Jaycee Tapia recorded a double-digit rebounding effort with 10 boards while adding eight points.
Newark Lab took control of the game in the middle quarters, outscoring Technology 40-23 in the second and third quarters combined. Technology attempted to rally in the fourth quarter, outscoring Newark Lab 12-9 as Newark lab held on to win.
The rebounding battle heavily favored Technology, who collected 47 rebounds compared to Newark Lab’s 14. Newark Lab and the defense generated 11 steals, with Kelly accounting for nearly half of those takeaways.
Israel Marrero contributed nine rebounds and three steals for Technology, while Jaylin Jean added eight rebounds and three blocks.
