DUI expresses deep concern regarding the serious deterioration, as they say, of the situation in the fight against corruption and institutional degradation in the country.

“According to the latest Transparency International report, North Macedonia has dropped 12 places in the Corruption Perceptions Index for 2024, ranking 88th out of 180 countries, with only 40 points. This drastic decline is a clear indicator of the loss of public and international trust in state institutions.

As the opposition, we believe that this government has not only failed to fight corruption, but through its actions has normalized it.
Also alarming are the data from the Faculty of Security, according to which every third citizen or a close family member has had contact with a corrupt official. This fact is no longer just a moral or administrative issue, but, as also emphasized by experts, systemic corruption constitutes a serious threat to state security, as it paralyzes institutions and undermines the functioning of the democratic order.

In parallel with this institutional failure, the parliamentary majority has approved the Industrial Emissions Control Law, which, according to the organization “Green Humane City”, paves the way for new environmental scandals. This law gives industries the right, under the justification of “trade secrets”, to hide from citizens vital information about the type of waste that is burned in their factories. With this law, citizens are denied the fundamental right to know whether their health and the environment in which they live are being endangered,” say the DUI.
DUI assesses that corruption is deepening and becoming the norm; state security and civic trust are being severely damaged; transparency and environmental protection are being sacrificed in favor of narrow economic interests./Telegraph/
