This is depressing. I wouldn’t be surprised if some Americans jump on this.
He tried to connect with Quebec and it blew up in his face, he must be feeling quite embarrassed. I hope that he’ll at least hold a press conference on Monday, otherwise all is lost, and the Opposition will plow full steam ahead.

I’m sure there’s a reason. I had kind of hoped to hear some strong statement on the disgraceful comments on NATO troops in Afghanistan given what Canada sacrificed there. 158 soldiers and 7 civilians supporting the US.
In fact, why not? Make a strong statement directed at Americans. Don’t snivel for an apology like Starmer, simply state the depravity in basic terms. If Trump throws a tantrum and tosses out CUSMA? So be it, because its not going to be worth any more than the last deal. If it has to be for a reason, it might as well be that we support our soldiers.

No doubt due to the bad speech he gave at the opening of the retreat, and the growing negative reaction to it.Â
Win some, lose some.Â
He has some repairing to do with Quebec, but a majority still support him. He needs a good Quebec lieutenant to help him in the province.Â

It is unfortunate but most likely wise with the serval comments from the US administration today about Canada. Something it just better not to answer everything they are trolling

Why pick a fight before the weekend? Fact is the us took a step back after his speech. Easier to let their reaction slide right now

My own opinions on all this, to each their own of course.
Personally, I feel like something happened but I guess we will see.
I don’t really care whether Carney or Champagne answered questions. It’s the government’s answer, the actual individual who transmits the message is not super important in most cases. I find out a big difference between not taking questions and another senior Minister taking questions in lieu of.
The speech was fine. I feel like everyone who is mad is glossing over the parts where he said it wasn’t always perfect or easy.
In any event, as a Quebecer myself, I see the battle of the Planes of Abraham as an interesting historical event but I cannot fathom getting actually upset about a 250 year old fight between two foreign countries, neither of which is mine.
Particularly since if I actually want to be upset, there are more than enough events in my actual lifetime (hell, there are more than enough events in the past year), which have real direct impacts on living people that are better uses of my energy.

Calling it a scheduling conflict is bullshit. The PM doesn’t get double booked like that. Skipping the press was a deliberate choice. Did he not want to be questioned about something? Did something more important come up with no notice? Was it something else?

Trump is expected to announce a tariff.hike on Canada next week to get back at Carney. I suppose Carney is trying to deal with that
