  1. He laid it out so clearly it’s undeniable. There’s nowhere to hide for the trump team on messaging now.

“Hey! You can’t describe exactly what we are doing in accurate and measured terms!”

  3. There are several areas where I will disagree with Carney, but this speech was incredible. He is 100 per cent correct about the United States. Standing up to them is essential. This is the most important issue for Canada right now. It is our very sovereignty on the line. We can’t pretend what is happening with the Trump administration is normal.

  4. Good. Let them stew in their own toxicity. Don’t need Canadian cars? We’ll make deals elsewhere. Don’t need Canadian trade? Fine, we’ll pursue commerce elsewhere.

At some points the Americans need to learn the only place they should be pointing fingers is directly into a mirror.

I’d love to see those pussy Americans actually do something about their criminal regime, but they won’t and never will.

Team trump is livid with Canada about “insert reason”. Nothing is, and will ever be, enough for them to feel happy with Canada because they live in alternate realities and are detached from the truth. Thats why I think our best option is to firmly stand up for ourselves. And if telling the truth, like what Carney said in Davos, results in consequences then we weather the storm together with our heads held high.

  7. I wouldn’t call it a War of Words like the article does. It’s not a war when one side can’t string together a coherent sentence.

  8. >But if Canada starts relying more on China for trade, then that just gives the Chinese side more leverage to effectively make sure the Canadians behave well as China defines good behavior.

Isn’t this exactly what the Americans are doing with tariffs, leveraging their trade strength? Is he that dense?

    >Canada’s military is poorly equipped to defend itself without U.S. help

At the moment, the only defensive concern we have ~~are~~ is the Americans.

    edit: grammar

  9. He didn’t mention Trump by name. Why do Trump officials think the comments were aimed at him? I guess they believe if the shoe fits it ought to be worn.

  10. Someone else suggested nominated Carney for the Nobel Peace Prize. The first comment said he’d probably be eligible for the Nobel Prize in Economics too.

  11. I know they’re dangerous, but they don’t scare me. We can’t have a single point of failure like the US. We need to diversify and never look back.

  12. Nobody cares. The headline should be that Canadians don’t care about Americas feelings anymore.

  13. Good, let their feelings be hurt.

People need to stand up to Mango Mussolini and I’m proud of Carney for doing it!

  14. On CBC’s Power and Politics tonight, at 1 hour in, they do a side by side of Carney and Trumps speech… it’s even more startling and poignant.

So a huge winter storm is going to affect huge areas of the USA . Electrical lines typically go down and millions will be without power .

In the past Canada sends hydro workers to go help repair lines
That was in the past ……..

You know now we’re told the USA doesn’t need anything from us . That we’re nothing without them

    Think about that

Of course. Bullies are super weak and they’re at their most vulnerable when they are stood up to.

Trump: “might is right. The old way of doing things is over.”

Carney: “the superpowers believe might is right and the old way of doing things is over”

Trump: “what an a$$hole I hate this guy”

  18. It doesn’t matter what comes out of Carneys mouth. Trump will never, EVER warm up to someone who’s educated. He’s afraid of people that are smarter than him.

  19. Canada is the living demonstration that the current tenets of Republicanism are bullshit.

Of course the orange shitgoblin and his minions are seething.

I wonder how long it took Trump’s handlers to explain Carney’s speech. It’s funny how different the reactions are before and after he gets “the talk.”
