There are several areas where I will disagree with Carney, but this speech was incredible. He is 100 per cent correct about the United States. Standing up to them is essential. This is the most important issue for Canada right now. It is our very sovereignty on the line. We can’t pretend what is happening with the Trump administration is normal.

Good. Let them stew in their own toxicity. Don’t need Canadian cars? We’ll make deals elsewhere. Don’t need Canadian trade? Fine, we’ll pursue commerce elsewhere.
At some points the Americans need to learn the only place they should be pointing fingers is directly into a mirror.

Team trump is livid with Canada about “insert reason”. Nothing is, and will ever be, enough for them to feel happy with Canada because they live in alternate realities and are detached from the truth. Thats why I think our best option is to firmly stand up for ourselves. And if telling the truth, like what Carney said in Davos, results in consequences then we weather the storm together with our heads held high.

>But if Canada starts relying more on China for trade, then that just gives the Chinese side more leverage to effectively make sure the Canadians behave well as China defines good behavior.
Isn’t this exactly what the Americans are doing with tariffs, leveraging their trade strength? Is he that dense?
>Canada’s military is poorly equipped to defend itself without U.S. help
At the moment, the only defensive concern we have ~~are~~ is the Americans.

So a huge winter storm is going to affect huge areas of the USA . Electrical lines typically go down and millions will be without power .
In the past Canada sends hydro workers to go help repair lines
That was in the past ……..
You know now we’re told the USA doesn’t need anything from us . That we’re nothing without them
